to Independent Musicians regarding the article at http://www.cnn.com/2008/BUSINESS/02/19/toshiba.hdd/index.html Some reasons I imagine this establishment of the high definition DVD format being significant are: 1. Any DVD production/manufacturing of a band or music lessons, etc… could be a better investment if done in Blu Ray since by 2009 all broadcasting will be in High Definition, so naturally more people may get into buying Blu Ray DVD players for movies they want to own. 2. Perhaps there's a Blu Ray format possible that can hold both surround sound audio on one side and high definition video on the other, therefore possibly sustaining or increasing the value of physical music discs. (For example I once bought a Ben Folds disc that was regular DVD on one side with documentary and performance content, and the regular stereo CD on the other, and I thought it was a good value to get this vs. just buying the tune downloads.) I'm just wondering when Steve Jobs will announce a Blu Ray burner inside one of the next generation iMacs! Do any blu ray burners exist yet? Though it seems on iMac iMovie and iDVD that export options are H.264 and I don't know if this is an HD format (like the one that's being dismissed right now) or something compatible with Blu Ray manufactured discs...
